Helping Hands

Balerno Parish Church ------ Christian Action

From the many recommendations and action points emanating from the 1997 Elders Retreat, it was proposed that, as a Parish Church, Balerno should provide help or services of a practical nature to those who may require it.

Firstly, we asked for volunteers to give of their time so that Helping Hands could function and, initially, only nine people agreed to help, but thanks to the persuasive efforts of one of the organisers and commitments made at the last Stewardship Campaign, we now have 40 people on the books willing to give of their time. Needless to say, we are still looking for more volunteers to spread the task load.

A Task list was agreed (which is by no means exhaustive) and this was listed in the Church Magazine.........

• Light gardening
• Transport to Doctors Surgery
• Transport to Hospitals
• Light Housework
• Ironing
• Mending
• Dog Walking
