Currie & Balerno Justice & Peace Group

The Currie and Balerno Justice and Peace Group, comprising Christians from several denominations and people with no church affiliation, exists to promote justice as the only avenue to a real and lasting peace on earth.

Grounded in the Gospel and drawn by the call of Jesus Christ, we are committed to praying and working by all peaceful means, including the use of the political process, for the creation of a just peace wherever people may be deprived of it.

The range of our concerns include:

• Social justice at home and abroad
• Human rights at home and abroad
• International peace and disarmament
• Poverty in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Worlds
• Care of the environment

We address these concerns in a variety of ways:

• By informing ourselves of the issue, using the most reliable sources available
• By supporting the work of individual members of the group in relation to their chosen justice issue
• By lobbying and appropriate us of the media
• By collaborating with other organisations which share our aims and interests
• By disseminating information within our church and local communities and thus acting to raise awareness of and win active support for the initiative we undertake
• By being active, visible advocates for the victims of injustice

We are an open and inclusive community, inviting people, regardless of their background, to work with us in solidarity and hope.

Meetings are usually held on the second Thursday of each month at 7.30 pm - venues to be confirmed.
