The Kirk Session
Balerno Kirk Session consists of 66 Elders and the Minister. It
is the leadership team in the congregation and parish, concerned with the
worship, life style and witness of its members and adherents.
The Kirk Session regularly assists the Minister in the Sacrament
of Holy Communion. A business meeting is held once per month and there is an
annual retreat or conference.
What is an Elder? Elders are the ordained [God
appointed] spiritual leaders of the congregation. Every member has an Elder who
is responsible for the pastoral care of each person in his/her district. The
Elder, along with the Minister, is responsible for the care of the aged and
needy in the parish and encouraging those outside the fellowship of the Church.
What should you expect of your Elder? He or she aims to
build up regular personal contact with you as a Christian friend:
Is your first point of pastoral care and help
Is your main link with the life and work of the congregation Prays
for you and your family Conveys any concerns that arise in his/her
district to the Kirk Session
What does your Elder expect of you? Elders who visit
you in your home would welcome:
A welcome whenever a visit is paid Your
friendship, encouragement, support and prayers Information regarding
illness or problems in your family or neighbourhood Your interest
and support for fellow members and the life and work of the congregation.
