Church Minister

Balerno Parish Church is fortunate to have Jared Hay as our full-time Minister, to give guidance and leadership in the various aspects of Church life, helping the congregation to fulfil its ministry to the Parish and beyond. Meet both Jared and his family below.

Rev Jared Hay, Minister

Jared was born in Ayrshire and after spending six years with the Royal Bank studied Theology in London. On graduating, he moved to Edinburgh in 1980 and worked for four years for a Christian organisation among students. During this time he was also studying for a Master of Theology degree through Aberdeen University. In 1984 he was accepted as a candidate for the ministry and did a Diploma in Ministry at New College. His Assistantship was spent at Cluny Parish Church in Morningside and it was while there that he met Jane. They were married in 1987, and in 1989 they moved to Jared's first charge - Newbattle, in Midlothian. They have two children: Catriona (1992) and Ian (1994).

After twelve years at Newbattle, Jared was called to be the Minister of Balerno Parish Church in June of 2001.

His interests include reading (mostly crime and pastoral!), holidays abroad (especially in France) and growing plants in his greenhouse. In 2004 he completed a Doctor of Ministry programme through Princeton Theological Seminary - a life-changing experience!
